Outpatient joint replacement is a surgery that does not require an overnight hospital stay. Joint replacement is a surgical procedure in which the worn, damaged surfaces of the joint are removed and replaced with new artificial parts.
A minimally invasive and cosmetic total hip and knee arthroplasty is a newer approach. Here the surgery is performed through one or two smaller incisions rather than the single long incision as in the traditional approach. Its advantages are minimal pain, quicker recovery, and faster rehabilitation.
Direct Anterior Hip Replacement is a technique in which hip replacement surgery is performed through an alternative approach compared to conventional hip replacement surgery. Historically, hip replacement surgery was performed utilizing traditional posterior or lateral approaches.

Total knee replacement is often the last option when conservative options fail to relieve the pain and retard the progression of joint damage in patients with severe arthritis. Knee replacement surgery involves replacing the damaged cartilage and bone from the surface of the knee joint with a synthetic implant.
This simply means that only a part of the knee joint is replaced through a smaller incision than would normally be used for a total knee replacement. The knee joint is made up of 3 compartments, the patellofemoral and medial and lateral compartments between the femur and tibia (i.e. the long bones of the leg).
Posterior hip replacement is the most common approach to total hip replacement. Here the incision is close to the buttocks. It has low complication rate and can be done either by minimally invasive or traditional technique depending on the complexity of the problem.
